Wexford Boardwalk

The boardwalk on Wexford Quay is a popular place for people to take a stroll and walk their dogs, especially on lazy Sunday mornings when the weather is fine. Here, two people stop to have a quick chat with one another.

This photograph was taken on Sunday, the 24th of April, 2016.

In the top left corner, you can see the Wexford County Council building in Carricklawn.

N25

A photograph of the N25 national primary road that runs between Rosslare, Wexford, Waterford and Cork. This was taken at the Barntown area of County Wexford, just outside of Wexford town. As you can see, General Election 2016 was in full swing and campaign posters were filling up the roadside:

On the right, you can see the poster for Independent candidate Caroline Foxe. On the left, you can see two posters belonging to Labour's Brendan Howlin and Fianna Fail.

This particular section of the N25 is 60km/hr as there are a number of residential entrances, as well as the entrance to Scoil Mhuire Barntown and Barntown Church.

Mural Towers in Wexford.

Photographs of some of the mural towers in Wexford Town, which were built by the Normans. These towers were built because they made it easier for the town's garrison to defend lengthy stretches of the town's wall.

There are two distinct styles of mural towers - both of which can be seen in Wexford.

Rectangular Mural Tower - The first towers were rectangular in shape. This one can be found in the car park of Rowe Street Church.

Cylindrical Mural Tower - Later, the Normans began to favour a cylindrical shape. This one can be seen in an amenity area that connects Upper George's Street with Westgate Park. This particular walkway also brings you to Westgate Tower.

Cylindrical Mural Tower

The fact that Wexford has two distinct styles tells us that the southern half of the wall (between Rowe Street Church and Barrack Street) was probably built before the northern half (Cornmarket to Westgate). This would help to explain why the northern parts of the wall are in a better condition.

Cows.

A dairy farm in County Wexford. Taken from the grounds of Rathaspeck Church (hence the gravestone, which reads "Furlong's of Redmondstown"). Redmondstown is a townsland that lies a few kilometres to the west of Rathaspeck and Wexford Town. In the far distance, you can see Wexford Harbour.

Minor flooding in Wexford Town after Storm Frank.

Photographs of the R730 road between Ferrycarrig and Wexford Town. The road underneath the small railway bridge had become flooded with water due to Storm Frank and some heavy rainfall that had occurred overnight.

The road was still passable if you drove in the right lane (although the brakes did require some pumping afterwards):

Here is another shot, taken from the other side of the bridge.

In the background, you can just about make out the spire of Bride Street Church. This was taken in June of 2015.

Wexford Military Show

The Wexford Military Show took place at Bettyville Race Course in Wexford Town. It included re-enactments from Roman soldiers and Celts; as well as military vehicles and weapons (including Airsoft rifles and the like). I even saw what looked to be large Terminator-style rail gun.

This photograph was taken on Sunday, the 31st of May, 2015. Unfortunately, the battery in my camera died seconds after I took this!

Railway Sheds

The old railway sheds, which are situated inside the grounds of Wexford Train Station. Visible from Redmond Place (these sheds have shown up in photographs that were taken before Wexford Bridge even existed, so they must be pretty old). The building to the far right is operated by the RNLI.
